Each year, 1.3 billion tonnes of food worth around $1 trillion ends up in the trash, while one in nine people in the world today (815 million) are undernourished.
A lack of sustainable production systems, poor information and awareness among farmers, resilient agricultural practices, low investment in infrastructure & research, wastage at the retail and consumer levels, losses along the supply chain and substandard procurement, distribution & storage practices are some of the causes of food insecurity and malnutrition. It is time to rethink how we grow, share and consume our food in order to eradicate world hunger.
