74 percent of the poor and 1.5 billion people globally are directly affected by land degradation.
Desertification and deforestation caused due to human activity and climate change are ultimately causing loss of biodiversity, food security and shelter. Ensuring conservation of ecosystems, eliminating pollution, restoring degraded natural habitats and promoting fair & equitable sharing of the benefits arising from land and its resources, is indispensable to reverse the damage and achieve sustainability. Additionally, poaching and trafficking of rare flora and fauna need to be stopped to prevent their extinction and maintain an environmental equilibrium.
