Just like the number of ‘likes’ on our pictures indicate a social standing for many and are a way of livelihood too, the introduction of a Carbon Footprint Score could be an indicator of our environmental consciousness. Once a number depicting how responsible a person is towards their planet is highlighted right on the face of their social media profiles, it will actually gain a value as people will try to maintain it on a certain level.
Just when Uber introduced a counter rating system where drivers get to rate a passenger and that rating is shown on the app as soon as you open it, many users now strive to maintain a score of 4.5 and above because it becomes a matter of self-pride. In this way, humane behavior towards the drivers is ensured. In a similar fashion, carbon footprint indicator could reverse the fate of the planet, at least calling for a reduction in carbon emissions on an individual level.
