The Wheelchairs of Hope team has developed the one of its kind, children’s wheelchair and aims to allow access to education in less developed environments. Wheelchairs of Hope is Israeli humanitarian social impact initiative lead by a group of experienced entrepreneurs with a social agenda that has developed, manufacture and distribute an innovative designed light weight and durable, children wheelchair oriented toward less developed resources environments.
The new children wheelchair was designed following general guidelines of the professional physiotherapy team of “ALYN”, Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Jerusalem and follows the existing standards as well as UN – WHO guidelines and features a durable plastic seat and foot rest.

Startup AMPARO creates alternatives to traditional prosthetics, simplifying the process of custom-fitting an artificial limb. Traditionally, even the quickest turnaround for a custom prosthetic would be at least several weeks.
An AMPARO prosthetic’s socket is also re-moldable, able to adjust to big or small changes in limb size for more comfort, and at no cost for replacements. With 80% of amputees worldwide lacking access to modern prosthetics, AMPARO hopes its innovation will help simplify the main barriers in access: manufacturing and customization.
Bengaluru-based cab services company KickStart, co-founded by Vidhya Ramasubban and Srikrish Siva has taken a step to help those who are wheel-chair bound to commute from one part of the city to another without being dependent on their friends and family.
These customized cabs are equipped to accommodate wheelchair users as well as those with disabilities and senior citizens. The drivers are also trained to help the customers board the cab as well as get off it without much hassle.
The global toolbox is a comprehensive resource to remove barriers for persons with disabilities facilitating their entry into a desired profession in low resource settings. The goal is to build the capacity of external non-experts (businesses, MFIs, governments, vocational training centers, entrepreneurs) interested in employing persons with disabilities on workplace accommodation in developing country contexts. The content of the toolbox allows end users to delve into specific adaptations broken down by sample work environments and disability type. The toolbox can be organized as a phone or web-based application. The user is presented with a wide selection of livelihood opportunities or trainings, contextualized to developing countries. The user selects the profession or training, and is brought to the next page: disability type.
The user selects the type of disability – all disabilities will be included. The application then returns a tailor-made page offering all the information about how to adjust the tools, work methods and environment within the livelihood opportunity selected for the disability selected. The user can combine these suggestions with local resources to create contextually-relevant accommodations. In addition, as the end users identify new solutions for reasonable accommodation, they can upload them in the application.
In response to the OpenIdeo challenge on ‘disability inclusion’, a non-governmental organization ‘Gwahali’ suggested Gantabya, a talking destination that is a full navigation service provided to visually impaired people with the help of Bluetooth, GPS and beacon technology. They are integrating beacon technology in public services like public buses and hospitals, which communicates/connects with the smartphones of visually impaired people. As soon as the beacon senses the proximity of a phone, it will give constant audible directions and feedback.
